It seems everywhere you look there are music festivals popping up claiming they are the next great thing to really support the “Independent Music Scene.” But let’s be honest, doesn’t it really just feel like a lot of them have become djs and well recognizable bands spending three days opening for The Black Keys and Radiohead?  Or even worse, they find the need to shrug off a Pixies reunion to headline The Cure.

Now in all fairness if you wanted to experience the great-line up, and we’ll admit they do have great depth to them, you’re often stuck with high ticket prices and/or $7 bottles of water, with very little focus on bands that don’t get attention from The Grammys.

Well, in Boise, Idaho there is a music festival that is true to its promises and doesn’t fear setting a lineup of originality. For those who support local and independent music, Treefort Music Fest is the equivalent of religious pilgrimage. They’ve taken the fast growing music scene in the Treasure Valley and paired it with some of the best local/independent acts you can get your hands on. No, this is not another group calling Radiohead “indie,” this is legitimate indie music at its best. Ticket prices are too good to pass up and the talent is fantastic. Unless you’re completely unable to travel (can’t fly, can’t drive, government watch list or probation) you have no excuse not to check this out.

One week after SXSW, downtown Boise will come alive with the likes of The Walkmen, Yacht, Gold Panda, Typhoon, Deep Sea Diver, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Animal Collective, The Grizzled Mighty, Emily Wells, Hillfolk Noir, French Horn Rebellion, Wooden Indian Burial Ground, Finn Riggins, Built To Spill and…well, here is the entire lineup, just announced.  Get to Treefort Music Fest 2013!
